Wash plush toys by hand

1. Read the label.

The label on the plush toy may say that it should be hand washed only, or that it should only be washed on the gentle cycle of the washing machine. If the toy is very fragile, hand washing is the safest and most thorough way to clean the toy. Spot cleaning is not enough as dirt may have penetrated beneath the surface fabric. Without thorough cleaning, bacteria and odors can remain in the toy.

2. Fill the sink with cold water and pour in a cup of mild laundry detergent.

Cover your sink drain, or prepare a large container, such as a bucket or wash basin. Fill the container with water and pour in a cup of mild laundry detergent. You must first read the instructions on the laundry detergent package, check the material of the stuffed toy, and then decide whether the detergent is the best choice for cleaning the plush toy. Some strong laundry detergents may discolor or even damage toys.

Don't pour too much detergent, or it will take a long time to rinse.

3. Soak the plush toy in water.

The toy should be completely submerged so that the detergent solution can seep into the interior of the toy and fight the stain thoroughly. Gently rub the submerged toy with your fingers to remove any stains or debris.

4. Rinse off the laundry detergent.

Thoroughly wash out the laundry detergent in the toy, and then squeeze out as much water as possible. Do not shake or twist the toy vigorously. You should place the toy between two old towels and press firmly to get the water out. When squeezing water, you have to determine the strength according to the state of the plush toy. A little carelessness and those old toys will fall apart.

5. Let the toy dry.

Fluff the toy with your hands to restore it to its pre-wash shape as much as possible. Do not place stuffed toys directly near heat sources or under sunlight, otherwise, it will cause the toys to fade or deform.

6. Partially remove the stains on the surface of the toy.

If there is only a small stain on the surface of the toy, or if the label on the toy states "clean surfaces only," choose a mild cleaner. You can choose an upholstery cleaner, which produces a foam that removes dirt. Read the ingredient statement on the detergent package to make sure it doesn't contain any harsh chemicals that could harm young children's health.

Children may put toys in their mouths, so the detergent used to clean toys must be safe and non-toxic. Many cleaners on the market claim to be specifically designed to wash stuffed toys. You need to find a detergent that is safe and suitable for cleaning the toys you have on hand. You can also spot clean toy surfaces with a damp cloth and unscented baby detergent.
